What can I do if I am having issues accessing the invite to complete section 1 of the I-9 Form?

If you have received the invite and you are unable to log in, we may need to reset your password. If you have not received an invite to complete Section 1 of the I-9 form, please contact your hiring company or employer.

What if I am having issues signing my consent?

Applicant Center works best on a computer. Some devices may not be compatible, causing icons to disappear. Try clearing cookies and cache in your web browser and ensure third-party cookies are allowed. Google Chrome is the most compatible browser, but switching to another browser may be helpful. If issues persist, contact customer service for assistance.

How do I fill in the I-9 Form?

Are there instructions available in Spanish?

Only employers in Puerto Rico may complete the Spanish-language version of Form I-9 instead of the English version. However, any employer may use the Spanish-language form and instructions as a translation tool. Access the Spanish instructions here.

How do I complete Section 1 using a preparer or translator?

A preparer or translator assists an employee in completing Section 1. If a preparer or translator helps, they must complete the Certification area on Supplement A. There is no limit to the number of preparers/translators an employee may use, but each must complete and sign a separate Certification. More information can be found here.

How do I determine my citizenship status?

What if I don't have an SSN or recently applied for one?

Employees who have applied for but have not yet received an SSN can still complete the I-9 form. If your company participates in E-Verify, you must provide your SSN once received to your employer.

What is an N3 Notary?

N3 Notary provides remote I-9 verification services. Their authorized representatives work with employees to schedule appointments and answer questions. Their authorized representatives must examine original documents, ensure they appear genuine, and record the document details.

What do I do if I am having issues scheduling N3 Notary?

For issues related to appointment scheduling for N3 Notary, please contact your employer.

I have a receipt for my document. How can I provide this?

Employees may present a receipt in place of a List A, B, or C document if they have applied for a replacement due to loss, theft, or damage. Receipts are valid for a limited time, typically 90 days. More details here.

How do I enter my name?

  • If you have two last names (family names), enter both.

  • If you have two first names(given names), enter both.

  • If you have only one name, enter it in the Last Name field and write "Unknown" in the First Name field.

  • Do not use nicknames. Enter your full legal name in Section 1.

  • Include hyphens (-) or apostrophes (’) if your name has them.

  • If you have a middle name, enter the middle initial.

  • Make sure your name is written the same way on all of your documents. Your employer may question documents that have different spellings or are missing parts of your name.

How does an authorized representative complete Section 2 of Form I-9?

Authorized representatives must complete Section 2 of Form I-9 within three business days of the employee’s hire date. They must examine original documents, ensure they appear genuine, and record the document details. More information here.

I made an error in Section 1. How do I correct it?

Please contact your employer to initiate an I-9 correction. You will receive a notification to login and correct any information entered into Section 1.

What if I received an error message when completing Section 1?

Please contact customer service to troubleshoot your I-9 invitation. If you can, provide a screenshot of the error message.

What if I am having issues uploading my I-9 documentation?

The maximum document size is 20MB and the document format should be a PDF, JPG, or PNG. If issues persist, contact customer service for assistance.

I was sent an I-9 correction by my employer, but I am not given the option to upload my documents. How can I upload those?

I-9 corrections are not for uploading supporting documentation. Corrections are only for correcting data entered on the form. If you need to provide documentation for the I-9, please contact your employer.

I have been referred to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and/or Social Security Administration (SSA) due to a Tentative Non-Confirmation status, how long do I have to address the issue?

Once you are referred to DHS/SSA, your employer will discuss and provide you with a Further Action Notice which includes the Referral Date Confirmation Letter. You will have 8 federal working days to make initial contact with DHS/SSA to clear up any issues with your information in E-Verify’s database.

Can I request a copy of my completed I-9 form?

You can request a copy of the completed I-9 form from your employer or customer service.
