If you’ve lived, worked or gone to college or university in countries outside of the country of employment, your employer may run a background check on you in those countries. Employers will often run the same kinds of checks internationally – for example, employment history verifications, academic qualification verifications and criminal records checks – as they do in the home country, to the extent where they are available in and allowed by the foreign country.

In performing these international screens, HireRight may need to request you to provide additional information specific to that country. For example, for certain Latin American countries your mother’s maiden name will be required to perform the screen; and Chinese law requires your name in Chinese characters and a copy of your passport. Conducting checks in India often requires your father’s name.
